Accomplishments

Thanks to all of our supporters, the Kenyan community, and the dedicated group of volunteers who keep the organization running, Emerging Humanity has accomplished an impressive amount of work over the past few years. Our projects reach more than 6,000 children at area schools and a community of over 20,000 people in western Kenya.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
  • Sponsor 50 female students in secondary school.
  • Opened and operate (along with the community) an all girls' high school in a rural village (Lifunga Girls' Secondary School).
  • Had 140 teachers certified in Early Childhood Education through our teacher certification workshops.
  • Delivered safe water systems to 28 schools.
  • Installed rain water catchment systems at 10 schools.
  • Built over 35 sanitary toilets/latrines at schools.
  • Renovated/constructed nearly 30 classrooms.
  • Constructed more than 10 classrooms.
  • Provided tables, chairs, and desks for over 1500 students.
  • Provided portable blackboards for 30 schools.
  • Planted over 3,000 trees on school grounds.
  • Organized two children's festivals with a combined attendance of over 5,000 teachers, parents, and students.

  • Community Response

Feedback from Kenyan community members after collaborating with Emerging Humanity on various sustainable development projects.

"This partner approach is better. When you are partners, you feel you own it. You will protect it. If it is given, you don't care and protect it as much."

"There is an attitude change after the [teacher] training. Before then, teachers were afraid to make teaching aids and think they need to buy them. Now our teachers improvise teaching aids on their own."

"We learned that playing is a method of learning. Children are more interested to come to school now."

"People from Emerging Humanity are very helpful and friendly. They are very much concerned, encouraging, and positive. At times we think it is difficult but, when they come it seems everything is possible. Parents contribute some, schools contribute some, and things go smoothly."
