Emerge > Projects

Emerging Humanity projects are based in Kisumu, Kenya (east Africa). We strive to improve the quality and quantity of learning environments for thousands of students by working with the community to:

1. Build new infrastructure (school renovations).
2. Empower teachers by improving their skills through teacher training.
3. Improve the curriculum.
4. Provide learning materials and other classroom resources to children.

We combine several aspects of education and development with an emphasis on community contribution in order to have a lasting impact on the quality and availability of education for entire communities. See the results.

Community Driven Development

We require each school that we work with on infrastructure development to contribute locally available materials for each project. This method of community contribution...
  • Has allowed the communities around each school to be partners in improving their school.
  • Fosters a greater sense of investment, creating a sense of ownership among the community for each project.

School Renovations

Many schools in Kenya still lack water resources, sanitation facilities, habitable classrooms, even desks and teaching materials.

Here's how it works

Classroom Renovations
  • We accept a new infrastructure development candidate school based on the amount of transparency, ownership and hard work the school and community is willing to put forward.
  • We work with the schools to develop a three-phase grant model which is a series of projects that are designed to create a holistic improvement in the lives of the child students, then...
  • We surround the schools in a flurry of projects that leave the learning environment dramatically improved, with childrens' lives made happier and easier.

Our projects help schools:

  • Build toilets to meet government sanitation standards.
  • Construct classrooms, repair roofs and dilapidated blackboards.
  • Install rain water harvesting systems and implement safe drinking water systems.
  • Construct playgrounds with swings and slides where kids can be kids.

Teacher Capacity Building and Curriculum Development

Emerging Humanity organizes teacher workshops to develop alternative teaching methods and enhance classroom dynamics. Our workshops:
  • Provide much needed teacher training and certification.
  • Promote the construction and implementation of creative learning materials.
  • Promote interaction, friendships, and idea sharing between teachers, parents, and students.
  • Seek to establish more interactive classroom settings with hands on learning and student empowerment.
